Two new Peugeot models were launched into the local market today; the newcomers almost bookend the Peugeot range. The first addition is the smallest member of the family called the 108, and the other is a large SUV called the 5008. Click here to read our review of the Peugeot 3008.

108

The 108 is Peugeot’s all-new city car. It measures just 3 470 mm long and 1 620 mm wide. It features stylish headlights with LED daytime running lights and taillamps that feature Peugeot’s striking three claw design element. Short overhangs allow for a turning circle radius of just 4,8 m and give the impression of a large cabin. Speaking of which, a height adjustable seat, electric front electric and a large touchscreen are all standard fare. The latter has smartphone connectivity by Bluetooth or by MirrorLink technology.

The Peugeot 108 is powered by three-cylinder engine of just 1,0-litre in size. This engine produces 53 kW of power and is mated solely with a five-speed manual gearbox. Peugeot claims average fuel consumption of 4,1 L/100km.

5008

At the other end of the scale, Peugeot has added the 5008, which is a seven-seater SUV, and essentially Peugeot’s answer to the modern MPV. The 5008 is 4 640 mm long and features a 2 840 mm wheelbase, which is 165 mm longer than the Peugeot 3008. Peugeot says the 5008 boasts a unique seating layout with three matching, separate, folding and tilting seats in the second row and two removable, separate, folding seats in the third row. All offer five different angles of inclination and adjustable headrests that drop down low when the seats are empty, for easy rear viewing. The third-row seats fold down into the boot floor as standard.

The largest Peugeot passenger vehicle available in SA is powered by one of two engines, both are turbocharged units. A 1,6L THP delivers 121 kW/240 N.m while a 2,0 HDI produces 110 kW/370N.m. Both engines are mated with six-speed automatic transmissions.

Comprehensive coverage

Both new Peugeot models are covered by the company’s Peugeot Pride plan. Peugeot South Africa offers
a five-year/100 000 km comprehensive warranty, a five-year/100 00 km comprehensive service plan, roadside assistance, 24-hour customer contact centre, licence renewal reminder as well as service plan and warranty expiry notifications.
