BMW has become pretty adept at controlling its own news cycle. The firm releases its own images and video of new models being tested. But the internet is a leaky place and the new BMW Z4 images have emerged ahead of the model’s launch next week.

See images and video of the new model in the final phase of dynamic testing in this link.

Pebble Beach debut

The new BMW Z4 will make its official public debut next week at the Pebble Beach car week, along with many other high-end models. It seems that somewhere along the line these images, probably shot for BMW’s press release, have leaked out of company hands and into the public space.

Compare the images of the red car to those of the test mule from the link above, and you will see the immediate similarities. The kidney-grille treatment is wide and flat, similar to that of the recently launched BMW M850i. This is obviously the front-end treatment we can expect to see on all BMW models going forward.

Keeping with tradition

In keeping with the Z4’s classic roadster lines the new model has a long bonnet and short cabin set far back on the profile. This is quite reminiscent of previous generation Z4 models.

The variant pictured will be the top-of-the-range model, bearing the Z4 M40i badge. This means that it is powered by an inline, direct-injection, turbocharged six-cylinder engine. We’ve already learned that the motor is tuned to deliver 285 kW of power and 500 N.m of torque. We’re willing to bet that there will be no manual version and that power will be transmitted to the rear axle (probably and LSD unit) via a twin-clutch transmission.

New tech

As you can see from the interior shots the new BMW Z4 looks high-tech. Besides the full digital display, it seems that owners can also opt for a heads-up display. Materials look top-notch, with a mix of leather and metal-look finishes employed in this particular unit.
