FINAL PODIUM

  1. Verstappen
  2. Perez
  3. Leclerc

CHEQUERED FLAG: RED BULL 1 – 2

Max Verstappen crosses the line to win the Belgium Gran Prix, with Perez almost 22 seconds behind in P2. Leclerc finishes in P3, with Hamilton in P4 with the fastest lap of the race.

LAP 43/44: HAMILTON PITS FOR FASTEST LAP

Hamilton doesn’t have the pace to catch up to Leclerc in P3, leading the team to call him into the pits for a fresh set of tyres. This puts him in a great position to snatch the fastest lap away from Verstappen and lock in an extra championship point.

LAP 42/44: HOLDING ONTO P3

Charles Leclerc is doing a fantastic job at holding onto P3. While Hamilton is gaining on the Ferrari, it seems like it may not be enough to snatch the final spot on the podium.

LAP 38/44: FERRARI STRATEGY

Charles Leclerc is secure in P3 with around 2.5 seconds between him and Lewis Hamilton. However, Ferrari has much worse tyre degradation compared to Mercedes. As long as Lewis manages to stay around 3 seconds from Leclerc, he could make a push for the line at the end of the race.

LAP 30/44: LECLERC COVERS HAMILTON

Charles Leclerc comes into the pits to cover off Hamilton. He exited the pits 1 second ahead of the seven-time world champion, and quickly broke the DRS to secure P3. The fight still remains between Hamilton and Leclerc for P3.

LAP 28/44: HAMILTON PITS

Hamilton puts for a fresh set of soft tyres. He was around 3 seconds behind Leclerc when he came into the pits, but now finds himself behind Alonso in P5. When Leclerc pits, Hamilton has a great chance at undercutting the Ferrari driver.

LAP 26/44: EVERYONE STILL ON SLICKS

Despite the rain, all 20 drivers are still running on slick tyres. The front runners are all on mediums while the back of the pack have softs. If the rain gets worse, the soft runners may have an advantage as they move onto intermediates.

LAP 22/44: RAIN IN THE PITS

Rain has arrived at Spa and some drivers are taking the opportunity to switch to new softs. However, those on mediums may be able to brave the rain until intermediate tyres.

LAP 18/44: VERSTAPPEN TAKES THE LEAD

Max Verstappen overtakes Perez with ease using the extra power of DRS. Perez has dropped back almost 2 seconds from the Dutchman before the end of the lap.

LAP 14/44: MAX PITS AFTER PEREZ

Verstappen stays out while Perez and Leclerc come into the pits. Max is evidently upset with the team for not telling him what the strategy is. Max came into the pits on the following lap, leaving him 2 seconds behind Perez on track.

LAP 13/44: HAMILTON PITS

Hamilton comes into the pits to replace his soft tyres for a set of fresh mediums. This may help him undercut Leclerc for the final podium place.

LAP 8/44: SAINZ PITS

Carlos Sainz has come into the pits for a change of tyres. While many expected him to retire the car, Ferrari has sent him out on a fresh set of mediums.

LAP 6/44: MAX OVERTAKES HAMILTON

Hamilton couldn’t keep the two-time champion behind for much longer as Max breezed past with DRS. Hamilton may still secure a podium if he can make his way past Leclerc.

LAP 5/44: SAINZ DAMAGE

Carlos Sainz came away from lap 1 with some damage. The team told him to stay out, but the damage has proven to be critical for the Spanish driver. Alonso managed to overtake the Ferrari, with Tsunoda breezing past with the slowest car on the grid. Sainz now falls back to P7.

LAP 3/44: PIASTRI RETIRES

Oscar Piastri was squeezed into the wall by Carlos Sainz into turn 1 and made contact with the wall. While the front wing was replaced, the Australian driver was forced to retire shortly after.

LAP 2/44: PIASTRI LOSES OUT

Leclerc had a great start and closed off Perez into turn 1. Piastri tried to cut inside and made contact with a few drivers, dropping him down the order. He had to come in to change his front wing, placing him at the back of the grid.

FORMATION LAP

All 20 cars get off the line as they warm their tyres for the race. Everyone is on slicks for the start of the race, but rain seems inevitable. This makes it an interesting starting grid for the Grand Prix.
