Driving the Nurburgring Nordschleife (North Loop in English) is very high on the must-do list of most petrolheads. We sent Double Apex editor, Matai, to experience the world’s most fearsome racetrack for the very first time.

Famous names

Car enthusiasts the world over know about The Green Hell, as nicknamed by Sir Jackie Stewart. We have all watched videos showing crashes by unfortunate drivers, and “record-setting” laps conducted in road- and racecars.

Just mentioning the famous circuit in Germany conjures up thoughts of iconic names such as the Karussell, Flugplatz, Hatzenbach, Brünnchen, and Fuchsröhre. Not for a moment forgetting the fiery crash that almost killed Formula One world champion, Niki Lauda.

A mecca of speed

The 21 km long circuit set in the Eifel Mountains of the Nurburg region of Germany is a true mecca of speed. Stand in one place long enough and you will see road cars in race trim, pukka racers, exotics and even camouflage-clad future models either on the track or on the public roads.

The town of Nurburg and surrounding area makes a living from the activities that take place on the circuit. There are countless accommodation options and car rental places that will, for a decent fee, rent you a vehicle to tackle the track. Once such place is RSR Nurburg.

Once in a lifetime

We were lucky enough to be hosted by the chaps at this experienced outfit for our very first outing on the ’Ring. RSR Nurburg is a one-stop shop for those who are intent on driving the Nurburgring Nordschleife. They offer myriad cars suiting all budgets, racetrack instruction and even high-speed taxi rides if you aren’t keen to drive, but still experience the track at pace.

Driving the Nurburgring Nordschleife is one of the craziest and most memorable places we have ever driven a car. Watch Matai’s lap and listen to him recount his experiences in the video below:
