A New Flagship for Chery

This new flagship model slots in above the existing Tiggo 8 Pro Max AWD, offering buyers a combination of performance and efficiency. The Tiggo 9 Pro Max PHEV achieves this by blending an inline-four turbocharged petrol engine, delivering 175 kW, with an electric motor that delivers 165 kW. As the model has just made its international debut there aren’t combined power and torque figures to share just yet.

The main take away is, of course, fuel consumption, which is quoted as 5,2 litres/100 km. The press release reads Moreover, it extends the comprehensive range beyond 1400 kilometers under WLTC, effectively addressing user range anxiety and ushering in a new era of green long-range travel.

A Familiar Yet Modern Design

At first glance, the Tiggo 9 Pro Max PHEV might appear strikingly similar to its gasoline-powered siblings. The overall design language remains familiar, offering a sleek and modern aesthetic. Among these is a new interpretation of the brand’s front grille and 20-inch alloys. However, keen observers will notice subtle cues hinting at its hybrid nature, such as strategically placed badging and aerodynamic tweaks.

The real transformation unfolds inside the cabin. Chery has implemented a modern update, featuring an updated digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. The latter is a 15,6-inch 2.5K HD screen. These elements seamlessly integrate with the Tiggo 9 Pro Max’s established feel, but with a distinct focus on contemporary design. Think of it as a subtle evolution, building upon the existing strengths of the Tiggo 8 Pro Max while injecting a dose of modern flair that reflects the Tiggo 9 Pro Max PHEV’s cutting-edge technology.

More Chery NEVs On the Horizon

The Chery Tiggo 9 Pro Max PHEV arrives in South Africa in due course, claiming the throne as the brand’s new flagship model. But this is just the beginning. Chery has hinted at further expansion into the hybrid segment, with the five-seat Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV Tiggo 8 Pro Max PHEV on the cards. Soon enough there will be pure EVs on offer as well, including the E5 from sister brand Omoda.
