Just a week after we reported that Bugatti managed to surpass the magical 300 mph mark with a Chiron featuring modified bodywork, the exclusive French marque has announced a special edition to commemorate the milestone – the Chiron Super Sport 300+.

This past Saturday, Bugatti bigwigs unveiled the new model in front of a selected group of customers as it also celebrated the 110th anniversary of the brand, where historic and current models were on display. To keep this ultimate hypercar super exclusive, only 30 units of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ will be made available to purchase and customers can expect theirs to be delivered from mid-2021.

The Chiron Super Sport 300+ is based on the model that broke through the 300 mph barrier by achieving a top speed of 304.773 mph (490.484 km/h). It achieved this by employing body panels made specially for speeds in excess of 420 km/h. The aerodynamic additions include air curtains at the front corners that guide excess air from the front air intakes to the sides and air outlets on the wheel arches and behind the front wheels – all of which help to create negative lift and reduce drag at the front end.

The longer rear end is also quite distinguishable from before and Bugatti says it reduces aerodynamic stall by 40%, while the reconfigured exhausts systems allows for a better centre rear diffuser to be used – one that generates enough negative lift by itself so that the wing can remain retracted in high speed mode.
But this model didn’t get to that magical peak velocity on reworked aero panels alone, because with 1 176 kW, there’s 74 more kW in play.

The Chiron Super Sport 300+ is also distinguishable by its exposed carbon fibre bodywork, with Jet Orange racing stripes over the middle. The black theme is carried on with all the trim work and the lightweight magnesium wheels. Inside, there’s an abundance of black carbon, and driver and passenger are welcomed by Super Sport 300+ lettering lit by orange LEDs on the carbon sills.

“With the Super Sport 300+ we pay homage not just to our glorious history with its numerous speed records but also to the performance of the entire record-breaking team. They were the ones who tackled the challenge of driving over 300 miles per hour. For this reason, the Super Sport 300+ is more than just an edition. It is by far the fastest luxury hyper sports car in the world and a genuine Bugatti in every fibre of its being – uncompromisingly beautiful, fast, comfortable and exquisite,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti.

And finally, the price. At 3,5 million Euros, the Bugatti Chiron will sell in excess of R56 630 000 million.
