If you’re a motoring fan, and anyone reading this site probably is, then you are well aware of the Gran Coupe models from BMW. These are four-door vehicles with sloping rooflines, which places them somewhere between a saloon and coupe. With this image, we are given a first look of the upcoming, and very first, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.

New model offensive

The latest all-new model was announced by BMW AG CEO Harald Krüger at a recent press conference. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is a sporty and elegant four-door coupe in the compact segment aimed urban target groups, according to the press blurb.

BMW has obviously experienced success with this formula in other segments, such as the 6 Serie Gran Coupe and with the sloped roof versions of its SUVs: X2, X4 and X6, and is keen to replicate that success with the newcomer. The first BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will make its world debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2019.

With the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, the company plans to attract new target groups to the brand, and take some sales from the Mercedes-Benz CLA. The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be based on the latest BMW front-wheel-drive architecture as used in the new BMW 1 Series, also due for release this year, as well as various Mini models.
