Representing the hopes of petrolheads everywhere is the mighty McLaren P1. The hybrid hypercar is one of the most extreme and powerful road machines to ever leave the gates of the Woking factory. Thanks to a 3,8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and small hybrid component the P1 delivers a whopping 673 kW of power and 900 N.m of torque. It has a quoted 0-100 km/h time of 2,8 seconds, in ideal conditions, with a top speed of 350 km/h.

Porsche is one of the first mainstream manufacturers to release an all-electric four-door sportscar. The Taycan Turbo S has 560 kW of power and a gargantuan 1 050 N.m of torque on tap from the moment the two electric motors start spinning. Each motor powers one axle, making the Taycan all-wheel-drive. Power is derived solely from a massive battery pack. Porsche says the most powerful Taycan can blitz the zero-to-100 km/h run in just 2,8 seconds and tops out at 260 km/h.  Click here to learn more about Taycan pricing in SA.

Watch the Taycan Turbo S challenge its sibling the 911 Turbo S to a straight-line battle.
