Do you remember the Beetle? Of course you do. From the ashes of WW2 came a car that made motoring affordable and attainable to pretty much anyone around the world. The bulbous little car made way for the Mk1 Golf, another car that was owned by the masses. Say hello to the latest, in what VW AG imagines, as the EV volks wagen, the VW ID.Every1.

The ID. Every1 is the last piece of the puzzle on our journey to having the widest model selection in the volume segment. We will then offer every customer the right car with the right drive system – including affordable entry-level all-electric mobility. Our goal: We will expand our position as the world’s leading volume manufacturer in terms of technology by 2030. And as a brand for everyone – just as you would expect from Volkswagen
– Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen passenger cars:
A Precursor
Well, to be fair the VW ID.Every1 is a precursor to the car that aims to democratise EV ownership. The Every1 is close to production spec and will spawn ID.2 that will go to market in 2027. An even more affordable ID.1 will go on sale next year. Both models are part of the new Electric Urban Car Family from the VW Group. Much like the Mk1 Golf, these will both be front-wheel drive. The platform is being developed for use across the volume brands in the Volkswagen Group eg Skoda and Seat.

Easy Going
Most EVs from the group, to date, have been RWD. The FWD MEB platform offers better space utilisation and maximum efficiency. VW says the concept vehicle (as pictured) reaches a top speed of 130 km/h and is powered by a 70 kW electric drive motor. They quote a range of at least 250 kilometres.
The VW ID.Every1 is slightly larger than a Polo in size. However, the bespoke EV platform ensure there is plenty of space in the cabin for four adults. Additionally, there is a quoted 305 litres of boot volume, which is pretty large for a car in this segment. Other tricks to ensure an airy space are a wide, flat facia although that centrally mounted screen does seem to take up lots of space.
