The RBR F1 Showrun is heading to SA. In a few months from now, on October 6 2024. Red Bull Racing will unleash one of its Formula One show cars (an ex-F1 racecar) through the streets of Sandton, Johannesburg.

F1 winner

The energy drinks company announced that Formula One legend David Coulthard will be behind the wheel. Coulthard is a 13-time race winner and has 62 Formula 1 podium finishes in his career. Over the years Red Bull Racing has performed for Formula One fans in city centres such as like Hanoi, Tokyo and Cape Town. Red Bull Showrun will happen on Katherine Avenue between Rivonia Road and West Street.

In his own words

David Coulthard, who is familiar with South African shores, is looking forward to his return. “I haven’t been to South Africa since we were in Cape Town in 2019, so I’m delighted we’re bringing Formula One back to Johannesburg,” he said. “I’ll be driving a very special F1 car, demonstrating the power, energy and excitement of what Grand Prix can bring. The RB7 churns out 750 horsepower and can push up to 18 000 RPMs,” he added.

The Car

South African spectators will have the chance to witness the power of the RB7 on the streets of Sandton CBD later this year. The RB7 was one of the most dominant machines in Formula 1 history, taking 18 of 19 poles and winning 12 races on the team’s way to a second drivers’ and constructor’ championship double in 2011. There will be other motoring antics, such as drifting, to keep the masses entertained.
