Just a few weeks ago Porsche launched the latest generation 911, internally dubbed 992. Now the German firm has unveiled the new Porsche 911 Cabriolet.

Two flavours

The new Porsche 911 Cabriolet will initially be available in two derivatives: 911 Carrera S Cabriolet and 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet. Both models feature a fully automatic soft top with an integrated glass rear window. The roof can be erected or stowed at speeds up to 50 km/h. The entire operation takes around twelve seconds.

Drivetrain options

Both versions of the new 911 Cabriolet are fitted with 3,0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder boxer engines. This unit delivers 331 kW at 6 500 r/min and peak torque of 530 N.m between 2 300 and 5 000 r/min. Power is delivered by a newly developed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. In the case of the S model drive is delivered to the rear axle while the 4S features all-wheel drive.

The 911 Carrera S Cabriolet accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3,9 seconds and can reach speeds up to 306 km/h. The 911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet is fractionally slower at 304 km/h but it achieves 0-100 km/h in 3,8 seconds. Both variants are 0,2 of a second quicker with the optional Sport Chrono Package.

For the first time, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is available for the 911 Cabriolet. PASM features stiffer and shorter springs, more rigid front and rear anti-roll-bars as well as a 10-millimetres lower ride height.

Bespoke appearance

The new 911 Cabriolet looks wider and more muscular than its predecessor. Wider wings hang over 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch items at the rear. The rear-wheel-drive models now match the bodywork width of the existing all-wheel models. The rear boasts a wider, retractable spoiler and the body-width light bar. With the exception of the front and rear sections, the entire outer skin is now made from aluminium.
