Here is the Double Apex Monday Motorsport Round-Up, a quick recap of this weekend’s biggest race action.

FIA World RallyCross

Defending champ, Johan Kristofferson (VW Polo), claimed a record-breaking 8th win of the 2018 season by claiming overall honours at the World RX of Latvia event. The Swede has won all bar one round this year. He shared the podium with Mattias Ekstrom (Audi) and Sebastien Loeb (Peugeot). WRC legend Marcus Gronholm finished a commendable 4th in a privateer Hyundai.

Kristofferson is now almost guaranteed of successfully defending his 2017 crown.

Formula One

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) claimed victory at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix this past weekend. The Brit netted a sensational pole position on Saturday, which many claim was one of the finest qualifying efforts ever seen. Hamilton claimed pole despite being slower than his main rivals throughout the practice sessions. Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) was second on Sunday, the same spot in which he started on the grid.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) seemed to be the victim of his own team’s bungled strategy efforts. Vettel qualified third, which meant he had to fight Verstappen in the open stages of the race. He overtook the Red Bull driver but quicker work in the pit stops and traffic meant that Verstappen gained a position after both drivers had stopped. Valtteri Botta (Mercedes) and Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) were 4th and 5th, respectively.

Hamilton now leads Vettel by 40 points in the driver standings.
