KAMManufaktur is one of the lesser-known restomod companies working on classic Porsches. It could be because the company focuses solely on the 912 produced between 1965-1969. The 912, in case you didn’t know, is a four-cylinder cousin of the 911. The small-scale firm believes that this base is ideal thanks to its compact dimensions and simple lines. We have covered one of its creations called the 912c before. This week it released the Kamm 912c Targa. The company founder explains below.

The Kamm 912c is now being built for clients all around the world, from the US to Australia and mainland Europe to the Far East. Many potential clients live in areas blessed with great weather and want to experience all a Kamm has to offer. With that in mind I created the Kamm 912c Targa. Based on the soft-window Targa, it retains classically original looks but is every inch a true Kamm

The Kamm 912c Targa is the first open-top car to receive the lightweight Kamm treatment. Kazmer is a stickler for purity, so the car used to showcase this new look is an original 1968 Targa with a removable roof and rear window. The very first of its kind (pictured) is finished in a period tangerine colour with aluminium alloys that look like steelies, and an extra pair of driving lamps on the bonnet. The trick, of course, is the bits that aren’t obvious.

Lightweight
The Kamm 912c Targa is semi-carbon in construction. All the body panel are made from the lightweight fibre. Additionally, the roll-over hoop is made from the same material. Moreover, the windows are manufactured from lightweight, scratch-proof Lexan polycarbonate. As a result the Kamm 912c Targa tips the scales at less than 800 kg. That’s about half of what a current-gen 911 weighs or about one third the mass of the latest BMW M5.
A 2,0-litre air-cooled engine, that revs north of 7k, powers the 912c Targa. The flat-four unit breathes through a set of ITBs and exhales through a bespoke exhaust system with active valves. Power is rated as 138 kW along with 205 N.m of torque. A five-speed manual transmission, with short-shift kit, sends power to the rear axle via a mechanical LSD. Furthermore, the Targa rides on adjustable coilovers.
“I wanted to launch the KAMM 912c Targa with a one-off model,” says Kazmer. “As with all KAMM cars, the 912c Targa will be equally at home on the street as it is the track, and what better way to enjoy life than a fast drive to the beach in a soft-window KAMM 912c Targa, ready for a day of fun and relaxation.” That sounds pretty cool to us…
