It seems that more than just a few manufacturers aren’t waiting for the Frankfurt Motor Show to debut new models. Today the all-new Lamborghini Sian was unveiled, though it will be shown to the public for the first time in a few weeks. Only 63 examples of the dramatic-looking new model will be built.

Hybrid power

The Lamborghini Sian is a hybrid super sportscar from Sant’Agata that features the company’s iconic V12 motor. A 48-volt e-motor, that delivers 25 kW, has been incorporated into the gearbox to improve performance. The combined power of the V12 engine and electrical component is 602 kW, at 8 500 r/min. This makes the Sian most powerful Lamborghini produced to date. The energy storage technology in the Sian is a world first. It uses a super-capacitor rather than a lithium-ion battery to power the electrical drive component.

Lamborghini says the Sián is the quickest accelerating Lamborghini ever sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2,8 seconds with a top speed of over 350 km/h. Tractability is even better thanks to the electrical boost with a 10% improvement in third gear and the 30 to 60 km/h acceleration time is improved by 0,2 seconds compared to the Aventador SVJ. In higher gears and lower speeds the electric motor increases performance by up to 20%, reducing the 70 to 120 km/h acceleration by 1,2 seconds compared to the Aventador SVJ.

In his own words

“The Sián is a masterpiece in possibilities,” says Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini chairman and chief executive officer. “Not only does the Sián deliver a formidable hyper-car design and engineering tour de force today, it augments the potential for Lamborghini as a super sports car brand for tomorrow and for decades to come, even as hybridization becomes more desirable and inevitably essential. The Lamborghini Sián represents the first step in Lamborghini’s route to electrification, and expedites our next-generation V12 engine. Its Sián moniker, meaning ‘flash or lightning’ in Bolognese dialect, denotes the first electrification of a Lamborghini production car and confirms our strong connection to the territory in which we operate. With the Sián, Automobili Lamborghini demonstrates its dynastic strength as a legendary super sportscar brand for the future.”
