A few weeks ago we brought you a story on the Jaguar I-Pace. You can read that story by clicking here. For those who don’t already know, the I-Pace is Jaguar’s first all-electric series production model. It will be launched in South Africa early next year, and we have local pricing for the newcomer.

Charged up

Jaguar I-Pace is a pure EV model, that is to say, it uses only electric power for motivation. There is no petrol or diesel engine whatsoever. Powering the range is a Jaguar-design designed, liquid-cooled 90 kWh Lithium-ion battery.

This battery pack feeds electric motors connected to the front and rear axles. Owners will be able to charge their vehicles with a 7 kW home charging wall box. Total charge time is just 10 hours. The driving range of a fully charged battery is said to be 470 km, more than enough for a few days of daily commuting.

The electric motors deliver a total system output of 294 kW and 696 N.m of torque. Thanks to those impressive figures and all-wheel-drive, Jaguar claims that the I-Pace models can dispatch the benchmark zero-to-100 km/h sprint in 4,8 seconds.

Comfort and dynamics

Jaguar I-Pace should provide a sporting and well-isolated ride as it is suspended on double wishbones on the front wheels and a multi-link arrangement at the rear. We’re sure that the system will be tuned to deliver a decent level of sportiness as Jaguar models usually are.

Because each axle is essentially individually powered, clever electronics ensure that the I-Pace has a level of off-roading ability. Though we are pretty certain you’re unlikely to ever see one at your local off-road course.

Pricing

The British firm’s local subsidiary will launch the Jaguar I-Pace in EV400 90 kWh AWD specification early in 2019. Four specification levels will be available, outlined below with prices.
