The year is just a few days old and already we have the first all-new model introduction. Unsurprisingly, the new addition comes from the Chinese market in the shape of the Haval H7. This SUV is the new flagship of the local Haval line-up.

Standout

The Haval H7 is a large-ish SUV that is comparable in size to a Toyota RAV4. It has a unique appearance characterised by round LED headlamps and squared-off lines, especially on the flanks (see pics above). The H7 also has contrasting plastic mouldings around the wheels and lower body sections. All derivatives ride on 19-inch alloys.

Occupants are greeted by two massive digital screens. The infotainment interface is about as large as a laptop screen at 14,6 inches. A slightly smaller, at 12,3 inches, instrument cluster sits in front of the driver. One neat feature of the interior is a removable rear luggage floor that can double as a camping table, complete with retractable legs. The entire range offers a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, full leather upholstery (synthetic leather on the Luxury model) and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Two Options, One Engine

GWM SA has led with a two derivative line-up to start. There are Luxury and Super Luxury variants. 2,0-litre turbopetrol engines power both derivatives. These produce 170 kW along with 380 N.m of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission is used across the range. Luxury versions are front-wheel drive while the Super Luxury offers all-wheel drive.
