Porsche fans will smile knowingly in return. In this German sportscar drag race we get to find out which is quicker in a series of straight-line challenges.

It’s interesting to have two cars that are so similar, yet so different which play in the same segment. Both the M3 and 911 here feature 3,0-litre engines. The Porsche’s cylinders are horizontally opposed ie flat, while the BMW’s are in a straight line.

You’ll have to open the tail of the 911 to access the motor, as it is behind the rear axle line. The BMW has its engine in a more traditional arrangement ahead of the cabin. Both cars use twin turbochargers to increase power. However, the BMW has a lot more firepower on tap. It may need that extra power as it is quite a bit heavier than the Porsche.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels in both cars. The M3 features, a first for the badge, eight-speed automatic transmission. While the 911 uses a dual-clutch seven-speed (PDK). A launch control function is standard in both cases. But which will win the German sportscar drag race? If you enjoyed this video please feel free to share using the social media buttons below.
