Popular Addition

When first introduced, Hyundai SA made it clear that it was targeting volume sales from this compact crossover. In recent times this lucrative segment has grown to account for nearly 40 per cent of the total passenger car market. Over 17 000 Venues have found homes in SA over the past two and a bit years at an average of over 500 units per month.

But Hyundai did not reach its current heights of being one of SA’s most prevalent brands by resting on its laurels. With that in mind it has introduced the facelifted Hyundai Venue to keep the model looking fresh.

New Appearance

The facelifted Hyundai Venue has slightly revised styling. Up front is a much larger grille than the predecessor. This new look brings the Venue closer in appearance to its Tucson and recently facelifted Creta siblings. The change at the rear is even more marked. Hyundai’s designers have restyled the taillamps clusters completely. The two units at either corner are now linked by a body-wide bar, which seems to be quite fashionable on SUVs these days.

Mechanically Unchanged

The facelifted Hyundai Venue range remains unchanged from a mechanical point of view. The range opens with a 1,2-litre normally aspirated engine. Peak power is just 61 kW with 115 N.m of torque. This engine is available exclusively with a manual transmission.

The three cylinder 1,0-litre turbocharged unit also remains. This engine produces a healthier 88 kW and 172 N.m. This engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Regardless of powertrain power is sent to the front wheels only.

Revised Range

Hyundai SA has taken the opportunity of the facelift to rejig the line-up. You can see the new and the previous range in the image below. The company has also added an N Line version. The latter has a few distinctive differences.

Among the highlights of the N Line are a dark chrome grille, restyled 16-inch alloys, black roof with a sunroof along with N Line badging. Occupants can enjoy artificial upholstery with red contrast trimming, mood lighting and aluminium pedals. The N Line also has automatic climate control glove box cooling, push-button start and Drive Mode Select.
