FINAL PODIUM

  1. Verstappen
  2. Alonso
  3. Hamilton

CHEQUERED FLAG

Max Verstappen crosses the line to claim Red Bull’s 100th race win. Fernando Alonso manages to stay in P2 while Hamilton closes off the podium in P3. Charles Leclerc and Sainz slot into P4 and P5 while Perez finishes comfortably in P6.

LAP 65/70: ALONSO BREAKS AWAY

Alonso has picked up the pace and extends the lead back to 3 seconds. While Hamilton is giving it everything he’s got, Alonso has managed to keep the seven-time world champion at bay.

LAP 55/70: RUSSELL RETIRES

Russell has been forced to retire as the team found damage to his brake ducts. This is his second retirement of the season, and leaves the door open for Aston Martin to regain second place in the Constructors’ Championship if stroll scores some points.

LAP 52/70: HAMILTON VS ALONSO

Hamilton is closing up to Alonso by a few tenths every lap. Alonso made a mistake and went off track, allowing Hamilton to gain a second in a single lap. At this pace, Hamilton could be racing Alonso for P2 in the last 10 laps of the race.

LAP 42/70: ALONSO COVERS HAMILTON

Alonso comes into the pits to cover off Lewis Hamilton. However, Alonso has a new set of hard tyres compared to Hamilton’s mediums. This gives Hamilton a slight edge for the next 10 laps. Verstappen does the same to cover off Alonso in P2. This leaves Max Verstappen in front of Alonso by around 8 seconds.

LAP 40/70: FERRARI IN THE PITS

Ferrari has called both of their drivers into the pits for a new set of tyres. Hamilton is around 20 seconds ahead of them on track, leaving him exposed to an undercut. The Mercedes pit crew called him in on the next lap to try and cover the threat from Ferrari. Let’s see if this new set can help him challenge Alonso up front.

LAP 38/70: PIT STOPS

A majority of the DRS train have come in for a fresh set of tyres. This bumped Russell up into P9. Perez has also been called into the pit lane for a blistering 2.3 second stop. The Red Bull comes out ahead of Russell in P8.

LAP 35/70: HAAS AND ALPHATAURI BANG WHEELS

Further down the line, Magnussen and De Vries have made contact. De Vries pushed Magnussen wide, allowing Russell to overtake both of them. In the next corner, both De Vries and Magnussen brake late and take to the run off. This puts them both at the back of the pack in P18 and P19.

LAP 22/70: ALONSO OVERTAKES HAMILTON

Alonso closed the gap and managed to pass Hamilton with the help of DRS. Hamilton challenged him for the following few turns but couldn’t keep up with the Aston Martin.

LAP 20/70: NORRIS ON THE CHARGE

Verstappen had a great restart and managed to set the fastest lap of the race. Hamilton quickly dropped 2 seconds behind the leader, leaving him less than a second ahead of Alonso in P3. Norris has been making impressive gains down the line, overtaking his teammate and Magnussen in the matter of a few laps.

LAP 16/70: SAFETY CAR ENDING

Perez stayed out while everyone around him went into the pits. This allowed him to jump up to P6 along with the Ferraris in P4 and P5. However, they are on an older set of tyres that may leave them vulnerable later on.

LAP 12/70: RUSSELL IN THE WALL

Russell has made contact with the wall, bringing out the safety car. Verstappen, Hamilton, and Alonso all came into the pits to take advantage of the safety car.

LAP 11/70: GASLY PITS

Gasly has come into the pits to change his soft tyres. At the back of the field, Perez is also making progress and now sits in P12. Stroll is alongside him in P13. A massive DRS train has formed from P7 through to P17.

LAP 7/70: VIRTUAL SAFETY CAR

Logan Sargeant has stopped on track with a critical error. This called out the Virtual Safety Car, slowing everyone down on track. This is the first retirement of the race.

LAP 6/70: ALONSO VS HAMILTON

Alonso is looking aggressive behind Lewis Hamilton. While the gap was around 1 second, Alonso managed to catch up and take advantage of DRS to close up even further. Alonso may be able to make a move in the next few laps.

LAP 2/70: THROUGH GOES HAMILTON

Hamilton had an amazing start and cruised past Alonso into turn 1. Russell also challenged the former world champion, but had to back off for now. Verstappen leads Hamilton, but the gap is just over 1.1 seconds right now.

FORMATION LAP

All 20 drivers make their way around the circuit as they wait for the five red lights. Keep an eye on Alonso as he challenges Max into turn 1.
