An all-new Peugeot 208 was unveiled ahead of its Geneva Motor Show public appearance later this week. The small hatch from Peugeot will be available with petrol, diesel and electric (EV) powertrains. The zero-emission Peugeot e-208 is the first in a series of 100% electric models, as Peugeot prepares to electrify its entire range by 2023.

New from the ground up

The latest 208 models are built on the firm’s latest generation CMP platform. The new 208 is 30 kg lighter than its predecessor and comes with improved aerodynamics, reduced roll resistance and optimised powertrains. On the petrol front, buyers can choose from one of three, three-cylinder, 1,2-litre engines. There is a single four-cylinder, 1,5-litre diesel. And for the first time, there will be an all-electric 208.

A 100 kW electric motor and a 50 kWh battery powers the e-208. It has a claimed a range of up to 340 km. The all-new e-208 comes with three driving modes: Eco, to optimise range, Normal, optimising comfort, and Sport, allowing the driver to prioritise performance. Distributed under the floor plan, the 220 L battery is positioned to allow maximum interior space and boot space to be maintained.

Interior

All models in the range feature, what Peugeot dubs, a 3D i-Cockpit. The components which comprise this driver interface includes a compact multifunction steering wheel, configurable head-up display, capacitive 7- or 10-inch HD colour touchscreen and seven satin chrome ‘piano’ toggle switches.

All driving information can be accessed through the 3D digital instrument panel and can also be projected, like a hologram, via the colour touchscreen. Technological aids provided also include TomTom Traffic, Connected 3D Navigation and Peugeot mirror screen functionality, compatible with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
