With it’s top speed of over 300km/h, and reaching o-100km/h in just 2.8 seconds, it’s no secret that the Nissan GT-R is one of the fastest sports coupes available today. But as of late, the GT-R hasn’t exactly been doing all that well, with sales figures of only 90 cars in the US and 60 cars in Japan being sold each month, Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has decided to take the Nissan GT-R to the next level. In June of this year Nissan unveiled a Concept of the 2020 Vision Gran Turismo model at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The concept car clearly took GT-R design cues, with it’s elongated lights and sculpted bonnet, it was described by Nissan as a car that the ‘real-world is ready for’. Now sources in the industry are saying that the next-gen GT-R will be a ‘toned-down’ version of the 2020 Gran Turismo concept. First off, Nissan are looking to improve their environmentally-friendly credentials with plans to include a hybrid drivetrain able to produce a rumoured 100Kw of power. The engine will be a tuned version of the current gen’s 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. In terms of design, the next Nissan GT-R might resemble the Turismo 2020 concept, only tuned down to make it more road-going, but we can still expect something futuristic and overly stylish. If everything goes according to plan, a concept could be unveiled at next years Tokyo Motor Show before production models arrive by 2018.
