Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) claimed a runaway victory at the Japanese Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday. The Brit claimed pole position at Suzuka then led from the front to win over his team-mate Valtteri Bottas. The Finn was challenged all the way to the flag by Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen.

Hamilton’s closest title rival had a weekend to forget. The Ferrari driver qualified down the order in 9th place after a poor tactical call by the team. The German then drove a great opening few laps to find himself challenging third place Verstappen. An ambitious overtaking manoeuvre led to a collision and Vettel spun out. He would eventually finish 6th.
