It seems all the top four-wheel formula were on a break this weekend, but motorsport fans were treated to the usual entertainment from the MotoGP circus.
Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso took overall honours in Italy, giving the manufacturer its first win at home in 11 years. Dovi shared the podium with reigning champ Marc Marquez (Honda) and Cal Crutchlow (Honda). Ducati was denied a double podium when Jorge Lorenzo crashed late in the race.
There was an incredible incident in the Moto2 class earlier in the day. Romano Fenati was disqualified after grabbing the brake lever of rival Stefano Manzi’s bike while racing at over 220 km/h. Manzi was seen having a high-speed wobble before regaining control. The incident seemed to be retribution for a failed overtake a little earlier in the race, which dropped both riders down in the field.
Fenati has come under heavy criticism from fellow riders of all categories for such unsportsmanlike behaviour.
