Unless you have been in hibernation, you will be well aware of the new SUV created by the guys over in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Expanding on that original model the company recently unveiled the Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept

A racing SUV?

The Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept is a racing version of the regular Urus. We’ve seen racing SUVs before, but they’ve all been created for off-road duties, mainly for events such as the Dakar Rally.

Lessons learned by the in-house Lamborghini Squadra Corsa division have been applied to the Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept. Compared to the production model, the racing version has been mechanically optimised for racetrack duties. It is also equipped with all the mandated FIA-approved safety elements, including steel roll cage, fire suppression system, and FT3 fuel tank.

Contrasting the bright green livery one can see the carbon-fibre bonnet. Also noticeable are the larger air intakes feeding the V8 engine. The twin-turbo motor produces almost 480 kW and 850 N.m of torque delivered to all four wheels. The racy looks are completed by a fixed rear wing, side-exit racing exhausts with a new hexagonal design, and 21-inch centre-lock aluminium alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli tires. Lamborghini Squadra Corsa has also pared the road-going Urus’ mass by 25 per cent.

Heading for competition

Lamborghini conceived the Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept for a monotype racing series that, uniquely, combines circuit and off-road tracks. The new format will debut in 2020 in Europe and the Middle East. Events will take place on specially prepared FIA-approved circuits. In keeping with the spending power of Lamborghini clients, this will be an “arrive and drive” formula designed to offer drivers a complete package including car and technical support during race weekends. Its track debut will take place during the 2019 Lamborghini World Finals.

We eagerly await our invite to the dynamic ride and drive event of the Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept.
