BMW have unveiled the latest iterations of their X5 and X6 crossover CUV cars, and they’re looking as good as ever. Under the hood is still the same 4.4 litre turbocharged V8 found in the first-gen X5 and X6’s, but the engine has been modified to boost the power from 555 hp to 567 hp. The torque has had an even more significant boost, from 500 to 553 N-m. The old X5 and X6 six-speed automatic gearbox is out, and has been replaced with a new 8-speed Steptronic, which uses BMW’s innovative XDrive all-wheel-drive system to alternate power between the rear and front axles.

These new adjustments to the powertrain mean that both the X5 and X6 can reach 60mp/h in only four seconds, with a top speed of 250km/h, an extraordinary feat for a vehicle of it’s weight. And the good news doesn’t end there. All the alterations to the gerbox and engine also mean you’ll be getting more bang for your buck at the petrol pumps, with a fuel economy of 11.1 litres for every 100km. Also, carbon emissions are down by an impressive 20%. Good looking out for the environment BMW!. Moving out from under the hood, there have been some alluring changes to the overall aesthetic to the X5 and X6. Both cars will feature new wider bumpers, longer wheel-arches, four exhaust pipes and freshly designed mirrors. The interiors have also been given an overhaul, with bolder sports seats, an Alcantara headliner and a dashboard trimmed with carbon fibre. We can expect the new X5 and X6 to arrive in the States early next year, with pricing for the X5 at $99 650 and the X6 at $103 050.
