Are you the ultimate Brad Binder fan? If you are, then this could be for you. Brad Binder’s record setting KTM RC16 MotoGP has been listed by RM Sotheby’s auction house. This is the very same machine with which Binder set the MotoGP top speed record at Mugello in 2023. The SA lad piloted the distinctive orange KTM to a top speed of 366,1 km/h on the Italian circuit, a top speed figure that is yet to be beaten.

Owning a Slice of History
Brad Binder should be a household name by now. The Potchefstroom-born rider burst onto the scene by dominating junior riding ranks. His success continued onto the world stage where he claimed the 2016 Moto3 title. He announced himself to the paddock and the world by winning a MotoGP race in his rookie season. He is always a threat in the field, although the KTM machines don’t quite have the pace of the dominant Ducatis. In 2023 Binder streaked to an incredible top speed for any race machine, let alone a GP bike by achieving a top speed of just over 366 km/h. He also secured two Sprint victories and seven Sprint podiums in the same year.
Working Machine
Binder’s record setting KTM RC16 MotoGP bike is powered by a 1,0-litre four-cylinder engine that revs to 18 000 r/min. As a result it produces 220 kW of power. Additionally, it tips the scales at a featherweight 157 kg. The bike is being offered directly by KTM, perhaps to help offset some of the company’s recent financial woes. Should you be able to come up with the sale price, estimated to be around the R8m mark, there is a catch…
RM Sotheby’s explains: Although this bike is fully operational, it is offered as a display piece only. Due to the specialized nature of modern MotoGP motorcycles – including pneumatic valve actuation and a mandatory unified ECU – independent private operation is not possible. Upon collection, the motorcycle will be started in the presence of the buyer. Any potential track use and service options can be discussed separately with KTM Factory Racing.
Bummer, so much for buying it and having a blast around your favourite circuit with your mates…
