The Aston Martin Valiant is a limited-edition, track-focused supercar that leans heavily on the brand’s F1 involvement. Not least of all its lead driver. The Valiant is based on a special commission by Fernando Alonso. It is the latest creation from the automaker’s bespoke division, Q by Aston Martin. Just 38 units will be produced.

Fernando Alonso: “Valour was a spectacular celebration of Aston Martin’s 110th anniversary, and stirred me to create a more extreme, racecar inspired version that was track focussed, while also delivering a thrilling drive on-road. Valiant is born from my passion for driving at the limit and I have enjoyed working closely with the Q by Aston Martin team on both the design and technical specification and believe we have created a masterpiece.”

V12 Power

A twin-turbocharged 5,2-litre V12 powers the Aston Martin Valiant. The engine produces 548 kW and 753 N.m of torque. The best part, in our opinion, is that the Valiant has a six-speed manual transmission. The designers have chosen to leave the linkages exposed for all to see in the cabin.

Other highlights include carbon ceramic brakes measuring 410 mm front and 360 mm. Additionally the car features Multimatic ASV dampers. These units can adjust their damping characteristics in less than six milliseconds.

Keeping it Slim

The company was keen to keep the supercar’s mass as low as possible. As a result it has exotic materials, such as carbon fibre and magnesium, as well as new production techniques. A 3D-printed subframe saves 3 kg, a magnesium torque tube shaves off 8,6 kg, and a lightweight lithium-ion battery reduces overall mass by 11,5 kg.

Aero-tuned

Aston Martin is also taking lessons learned in F1 to sculpt the shape of the supercar, providing downforce and efficiency. Among the highlights are a deep front splitter and carbon fibre aero discs fitted to the 21” Magnesium wheels. Additionally F1 ‘tricks’ can be seen on the upswept vortex generators located ahead of the rear wheels. These smooth airflow along the flanks, reducing turbulence, drag and lift. There is a massive fixed wing and prominent diffuser at the rear.
